The Observatory of Tourism in Barcelona updates the Destination Barcelona tourism forecast report

The Observatory of Tourism in Barcelona updates the Destination Barcelona tourism forecast report as of 28/10/22, which from this edition onwards, becomes a monthly report.

 

Transport offer

  • International air capacity: The worldwide flight air supply for the next 3 months will be an optimistic November, with a slight reduction in December and a January 2023, reaching capacity around 2019 levels
  • Flight offer at Barcelona Airport: Barcelona is currently served by 68 airlines flying to 154 destinations, of which 42 are intercontinental.
  • Cruises at Port de Barcelona: 82 cruise ships are expected to arrive in Barcelona in November, while 42 will operate in December.

 

Tourist offer and professional events

  • Accommodation: By the end of September there were 440 establishments open with with 76,100 bed supplies (-2.2% on the total).
  • Culture and leisure offer: 87 out of 89 cultural facilities monitored in Barcelona city remain open.
  • Professional events: There are currently 116 congresses confirmed for the upcoming years, 28 of which from November to December. In the meanwhile, about 100 applications are open until 2027.

 

Tourist demand

  • Online search trends: Over the last week, Google searches from Spain have decreased slightly for Barcelona city andand have increased for Destination Barcelona. Most of searches for both geographic areas are conducted from Catalonia.
  • Flight and accommodation search trends: From 11/10/22 to 17/10/22, the positioning of Destination Barcelona in Spain, Italy, France, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom has been higher than the ranking of international destinations world average (11th position in accommodation searches and 9th in flight searches).
  • Hotel bookings by date of booking: From 11/10/22 to 17/10/2022, hotel bookings in Barcelona city stood at 83.3% compared to the series peak (February 2022), and lower than during the previous week (90.1%). In Barcelona region, bookings reached 92.8% of the series peak (March and May 2022), but lower than in the previous week (93.6%). As for their origin, in October international bookings exceeded domestic bookings in Barcelona city (59.6%), while in Barcelona region, domestic bookings (68.6%) surpassed the international. The lead time stood at 45 days in Barcelona city and at 27 days in Barcelona region.
  • Hotel bookings by date of stay: Currently, the level of bookings for the rest of the year is above the level recorded last year, especially for stays in November. The US market leads the hotel bookings for Novembre in Barcelona city, while the Spanish market, those for December in Barcelona city and for both November and December in Barcelona region .
