The Observatory of Tourism in Barcelona updates the Destination Barcelona tourism forecast report as of 25/11/22.

 

Transport offer

  • International air capacity: The worldwide flight air supply shows a recovery of 90-94% for the next 3 months (compared to sprepandemic levels).
  • Flight offer at Barcelona Airport: Barcelona is currently served by 63 airlines flying to 153 destinations, of which 36 are intercontinental.
  • Cruises at Port de Barcelona: 32 cruise ships are expected to arrive in Barcelona in December.

 

Tourist offer and professional events

  • Accommodation: By the end of October, there were 441 establishments open with with 76,576 bed supplies (-2.5% behind the total).
  • Culture and leisure offer: 88 out of 89 cultural facilities monitored in Barcelona city remain open.
  • Professional events: There are currently 125 congresses confirmed for the upcoming years, 11 of which until the end of 2022. In the meanwhile, about 100 applications are open until 2027.

 

Tourist demand

  • Online search trends: Over last month, Google searches have decreased slightly for both Barcelona city and Destination Barcelona. The source market that has shown more interest for both geographical areas is the Spanish. Most of the searches from this market are conducted from Catalonia.
  • Flight and accommodation search trends: From 08/11/22 to14/11/22, the positioning of Destination Barcelona in Spain, Italy, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Germany has been higher than the ranking of international destinations world average (14th position in accommodation searches and 11th in flight searches).
  • Hotel bookings by date of booking: During the last 4 weeks, hotel bookings in Barcelona city have stood at 83.5% compared to the series peak (registered in February 2022), reaching the same level as in the previous 4 weeks. In Barcelona region, bookings have decreased slightly to 79.2% of the series peak (registered in March and in May 2022). As for their origin, in November international bookings exceeded domestic bookings in Barcelona city (56.2%), while in Barcelona region, domestic bookings (77.3%) surpassed the international. The lead time stood at 46 days in Barcelona city and at 33 days in Barcelona region.
  • Hotel bookings by date of stay: Currently, the level of bookings for the next three months is above last year's level, especially for stays in December. The Spanish market leads the hotel bookings for December in both Barcelona city and Barcelona region. However, the Americans lead the bookings in Barcelona city for stays in January and February 2023, while the Germans lead those in Barcelona region.
