The Barcelona Tourism Observatory presents the monthly report on the Profile and Habits of Tourists in Destination Barcelona
This September, the growth of international tourism in the Destination (58.1%) experienced in recent months is maintained, a fact motivated by international tourists in the city of Barcelona (77.7%). In contrast, in the Barcelona region, the arrival of domestic tourists (69.6%) is still higher than that of international tourists.
The typical tourist profile in Destination Barcelona remains quite similar to the previous months: a 37.0-year-old person, who has traveled for leisure (69.5%), as a couple (47.9%) and who has visited the destination municipality 12.0 times on average. Only 45.7% of visitors had never been to the municipality where they were staying, compared to 31.6% who had stayed there before 4 or more times in the last 10 years.
During the stay, which has stood at 4.7 days on average, tasting gastronomy (85.7%) and taking quiet and relaxing walks (77.4%) have been, once again, the most popular activities.
Coinciding with the end of the summer, a decrease of 5% in the total expense during the stay has been observed compared to the previous months, with a value of € 423.0. Despite this decrease, spending during the stay in the city of Barcelona has increased by 5% compared to August, while that of the Region has decreased by 28% in the same period. Also, as historically, more than half of this expenditure is still spent on food and drink, followed, in that order, by shopping, culture, and domestic transportation.
The average global valuation of the municipalities has stood at 8.60 out of 10 and the most valued aspects keep being the character and kindness of the people (8.67) and the accommodation (8.41).
Finally, one more month, the number of tourists who have not modified either the planning or the initial organization of their visit to the Destination of Barcelona due to the effects derived from the Covid-19 is increasing.
